It seems hackers are taking big advantage of this Black Friday to carry out some selfish and bad activities. If you’re not careful, today might just be a day you live to remember.
This morning I got a mail from one Five Bee Bee indirectly claiming the zip achieve containing information about my purchase order has been sent as an attachment.
I was quiet surprised cause I didn’t purchase anything online. But however, I downloaded the attachment to see what was up.
After opening the attachment locally on my PC, this message alert popped up.
I knew it was an hack cause I’ve seen something similar to this before. I went further to check the source code of the page and saw this
That’s obviously meaningless, Scrolled all the way to the bottom to see the source code of the form element and I saw this
I think they guessed an average human would assume the same texts continued to the last line and hence close the page.
Look closely at where I pointed an arrow at; the HTML form element action attribute which is equal to http://lakshmit.ueuo.com/reigns.php means, any information I submitted to that form would be sent to and processed at http://lakshmit.ueuo.com/reigns.php and not Gmail!.
And that is to say, the page http://lakshmit.ueuo.com/reigns.php contains some PHP scripts that collects those information( email address and password) and save them into the database! and then they hack the email!! and probably get access to other accounts like Facebook account, Twitter account, PayPal account etc related to the email!
I opened the link on my mobile and they didn’t disappoint me, same bad attempt to get your email details.
I tried to access the domain directly but I was forbidden!
How unfair? Hacks like this are not carried out alone on a black Friday, but they are obviously taking advantage of today, as multitudes tend to fall for it.
Be warned, If you’re being mailed with an attachment that ends up asking you to log in to your mail again, DON’T DON’T DON’T submit your email address and password! and always check the URL of the page you’re currently at, if not the URL it’s meant to be, don’t hesitate to close the tab! I hope I helped in a way. Happy Black Friday.
